TYPE OF BACKFILL |
DISADVANTAGES |
| Sand |
Sand faces possible
migration, inconsistency, and difficulty in achieving required
compaction - especially in wet conditions! Compaction also must take
place in shallow lifts. |
| Aggregate Backfill
Material |
Crushed Rock has similar
disadvantages to that of sand. These materials may have plastic
fines, difficulty in achieving the required compaction, difficulty
compacting in wet conditions, and requires compaction in shallow
lifts, which is time consuming and costly. |
| CLSM by Ready
Mix |
CLSM produced by Ready
Mix cannot offer a quick set time because the amount of time it
takes to reach a site is always unknown. Except for rare
circumstances, more material must be ordered than is needed. Truck
wait time is expensive and Ready Mix delivery after regular business
hours can be extremely costly. |
| CLSM w/ Bottom
Ash |
CLSM produced with bottom
ash is not as pumpable as Geofill or other products. Materials are not readily available in many areas.
